Chulen, meaning “taking the essence,” is a revered traditional preparation found in the Nyingma lineage of Tibetan Vajrayana Buddhism. Historically, these essence pills were crafted for practitioners engaged in deep meditation, retreat, and yogic disciplines. They were used to support contemplative practices and to help cultivate awareness of subtle energetic processes within the Tibetan spiritual framework.

The Chulen offered here is prepared according to classical instructions passed through the Nyingma lineage, crafted by Tibetan physician Ngawang Drakpa in Kathmandu, and consecrated in a full ceremonial ritual at the monastery of the late master Trulshik Rinpoche. Each batch is produced with great care, using sustainably harvested herbs and traditional methods intended to honor the lineage from which this practice originates.

In traditional Tibetan lore, Chulen is associated with clarity, presence, and inner steadiness. These essence pills were historically used during meditation retreats, long periods of study, or times of focused spiritual cultivation. Modern practitioners often incorporate them into their daily rituals as a way of connecting with these time-honored contemplative traditions.

Ingredients (traditional Tibetan formulation):
Saxifraga, Dactylorhiza, Wild Asparagus Racemosus, Angelica Glauca, Boerhavia Diffusa, Cassia Angustifolia, Polygonatum Cirrhifolium, Terminalia Chebula, Terminalia Bellirica, Phyllanthus Emblica, Crocus Sativus, Cordyceps sinensis, Mountain Honey, Molasses, Aconitum Patulum (processed according to lineage instructions), Clarified Butter, Taraxacum Tibericum, Myricana Rosea, Rhododendron Anthopogon, Juniperus Tibetica, Shilajit (Asphaltum Punjabianum), and additional herbs traditionally used in Tibetan preparations.

Each herb is hand-gathered with care, sustainably sourced, and processed according to Buddhist principles and ritual methods that have been passed down for centuries.

Traditional Perspective

In Tibetan medicine and Vajrayana practice, Chulen is viewed as a preparation that works on subtle levels of the body and mind, associated with concepts such as “essence,” “vital energy,” and meditative stability. These ideas belong to the symbolic and energetic language of the Tibetan tradition and are not presented as medical claims.

Practitioners historically used Chulen during meditation retreats or alongside yogic techniques to support inward focus, presence, and a sense of connection to contemplative practice.
